Hi-tech treat for Swindon care home

Local bikers group help care home stay fit

The residents at a Swindon care home will be given a hi-tech treat to help them stay fit, healthy and young at heart, thanks to the generous donation from a local bikers group.

The White Horse Wings Bikers Group in Swindon has donated the sum of £1,200 to the staff and residents at Church View care home so that they can invest in a Nintendo Wii console with games and a Wii fit board.

resident Dennis Gleeson (centre) 82 years-old took the opportunity to hop on a Honda Goldwing while Whitehorse motorcycle club members visited the nursing home, area rep Roger Cooper (l) along with home manager Jo Butler (r)

“We have close links with the White Horse Wings, as some of staff are members, but it is very kind of them to provide us which such a generous donation," commented home manager, Jo Butler.

"Myself, staff members and the residents decided that the best investment for the money would be a Nintendo Wii console as it will not only provide our residents with a great deal of enjoyment, but it will also encourage them to be active.

"The Wii is a great way of stimulating both the body and mind and will encourage the residents to interact not only with each other, but with members of staff, and friends and family when they come and visit.

“We celebrated the presentation of the cheque from White Horse Wings with a 50’s style rock'n'roll themed afternoon.

"All the staff dressed up in 1950’s costumes and residents enjoyed an afternoon of 50’s music with jiving and an old fashioned tea party!

“We all had a great afternoon and are looking forward to getting the Wii console set up for the residents as they are raring to get playing on it."
